The Government of Bangladesh establishment the Japanese Grant Aid for Human Development Scholarship (JDS) with the assistance of the Government of Japan. |

The objective of the JDS is to provide opportunities with Bangladeshi citizens to study in Japan at Masters level by targeting mainly Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Cadre Officials & Bangladesh Bank Officials in under to support national efforts. JDS fellows are expected to acquire expert knowledge and build research and human networks in Japan to use such knowledge and take an active role practically in solving the problems that Bangladesh is facing for Development.
Number of Scholarship: 20 (Twenty)
Field of Study: 1. Public Administration
- Advancing Effective Administrative Systems
- Decentralization and Improvement of Local Governance
2. Economics
- Ensuring Balanced and Stable Fiscal Management
- Promotion of Attractive Market and Active Industries
3. International Relations
- Building-up Closer Relationship with Asian Countries
4. Environmental Policy
- Building Institutional Capacity for Environmental Management
Eligibility Requirements: 1. Age: (as of Aprl 1, 2010)
- Bellow 40 years (Born on/after April 2, 1970)
2. Academic background:(as of Aprl 1, 2010)
- Completed 16 years of School education with at least Bachelor degree
- At least two (2) First Division or equivalent no Third Division
< UL> 3. Working experience:(as of Aprl 1, 2010)
- For Applicants of Public Administration, International Relationship & Environmental Policy
1. Confirmed member of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Cadre with 2 (two) years of work experience in Government service.
- For Applicants of Economics
1. Confirmed member of Bangladesh Civil Service (BCS) Cadre with 2 (two) years of work experience in Government service 2. Permanent staff of Bangladesh Bank with 2 (two) years of work experience in Bangladesh Bank < UL> Ineligibility
- Applicants who have been awarded or are schedule to receive other scholarship
- Applicants who obtained Masters Degree overseas
- Military personnel and military civilian employees registered on the active list and personnel on temporary leave from the active list.
- Applicants who are temporary staff and cannot get study-leave for full period of time before the departure to Japan.
English proficiency
- IELTS 6.0 / CBT (Computer-Based TOEFL) 213 / PBT (Paper-Based TOEFL) 550 or above.
- Those who do not have above score and pass 1st Selection are required to take IELTS at the 2nd Selection.
- Holders of valid certificate issued after April 1, 2008 will be exempted from taking IELTS at the 2nd Selection.
Permission and others:
- Applicants must obtain permission for their application from controlling supervisor (Prescribed Form).
- For BCS Cadre Officials: To be a Government Official in BCS Cadre, successfully completed necessary Foundation Training Course by the time of application, and eligible to get the deputation for full period of preparatory training and study before the departure to Japan.
- For Bangladesh Bank Officials: To be a permanent staff AND eligible to get study-leave or deputation for full period of preparatory training and study before the departure to Japan.

- A/F are available at the JICE JDS project Office, the Embassy of Japan in Bangladesh Office, all the training sections of Ministries and all Deputy Commissioner Offices in 64 districts, etc.
